Republic Guatemala Monetary unit is the quetzal which consists from 100 centavo. In a cash turn-over there are coins of denomination 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 centavo and 1 quetzal.

During board of the president of Guatemala Jose Maria Oreljana, in exchange earlier acting peso, in 1925 the quetzal has been entered. Till 1987 the quetzal has been adhered to US dollar, using one gold standard.

In 1925 of denomination coins have been entered into 1, 5, 10 centavo, 1/4 1/2 and 1 quetzal though, subsequently, the majority of coins with nominal value a quetzal have been withdrawn from circulation. Coins 1/2 and 2 centavo have been added in the circulation in 1932. Till 1965 of a coin 5 centavo also were above minted with addition of 72 % of silver. Coins 50 centavo and 1 quetzal have been again entered into the circulation in 1998 and 1999, accordingly.
