Republic Latvia Monetary unit is lats which consists of 100 centimes. In monetary circulation there are coins of denomination 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 centimes and 1, 2 lats.

The Republic Latvia is member country the European union .

Lats for the first time has been entered in 1922, having replaced the Latvian rubles at a rate of 1 lats=50 rubles. In 1940 Latvia has been switched on in composition the USSR and lats has been replaced by the Soviet ruble at par value. During the period between 1922-1940 years in Latvia coins in nominal value 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 centimes and 1, 2, 5 lats were manufactured. Coins 1, 2 and 5 centimes were rapped out of bronze, a coin 10, 20 and 50 centimes from nickel, and a coin of denomination of 1 lats and above, from silver.

After disintegration of the USSR, since 1993 in Latvia coins of denomination in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 centimes, and also 1 and 2 lats are manufactured. There are also memorable coins of denomination in 2, 10, 20, 100 lats from gold and silver.
