Monetary unit of Islamic Republic Pakistan is the rupee which consists of 100 paisas. In circulation there are coins in nominal value 1, 2 and 5 rupees.

Rupees Pakistan have been put into circulation after the country became independent of the British sovereignty in 1947. For the first months of independence of Pakistan the Indian coins and notes with a seal "Pakistan" on them were used. New coins and notes have been manufactured in 1948.

The Origin of a word "rupee" is in RUP a Sanskrit, or Rupy that means "silver" in many indo-Aryan languages. Rupyakam on a Sanskrit means, a coin from silver. Derivative word Rupaya has been used for a designation of coins of presented Sher Shah Suri during its board with 1540 on 1545 BC

In 1948 in Pakistan coins in nominal value of 1 paisas, 1/2, 1 and 2 anns, 1/4 1/2 and 1 rupee have been manufactured. Years of input in circulation of coins: 1961 - coins 1, 5 and 10 paisas, 1963 - coins of 10 and 25 paisas, 1964 - a coin 2 paisa, 1979 - a coin 1 rupee, 1998 - a coin of 2 rupees, 2002 - a coin of 5 rupees. Coins of 1 and 2 rupees began to mint from aluminium in 2007.
