Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has ascended to a throne after renunciation of the father in the end of 1967. On coins of a series of 1968-1977 the portrait of the new sultan with an inscription "Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah I" is represented. The same year memorable coins in $1 to $1000 have been manufactured. Since 1977 the title was changed on "Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah". In a series of 1977-1992 of a coin were minted without I in a title. In a series of coins manufactured since 1993 on face side of coins there was a new portrait of the Sultan - the person forward. The title is rapped out, as "Sultan Hadjs Hassanal Bolkiah".
