Republic Uganda Monetary unit is the shilling which consists of 100 cents. In monetary circulation there are coins of denomination of 50, 100, 200 and 500 shillings.

In 1966 in Uganda coins have been entered into the circulation of denomination 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and 1 and 2 shillings. Coins 5, 10 and 20 cents have been executed from bronze, and higher nominal values from a Copper-Nickel. In 1972 coins of 5 shillings from a Copper-Nickel have been manufactured, but soon have been withdrawn from circulation and now are very rare. In 1976 bronze in coins of 5 and 10 cents has been replaced with a copper-plated steel, and in coins of 50 cents and 1 shilling the steel covered with a Copper-Nickel has replaced a Copper-Nickel. In 1986 coins of 50 cents and 1 shilling from a Nickel-plated steel have been manufactured.

In 1987 coins were entered into the circulation 1 and 2 shillings from a steel covered with a Copper-Nickel and heptagonal coins of 5 and 10 shillings from stainless steel. In 1998 a new series of coins of denomination of 50, 100, 200 and 500 shillings has been manufactured.

Reverses of all ugandan coins are decorated by the plotting of any animals living in territory of the state. In particular, on a coin in 50 shillings the head of an antelope, on 100 shillings - a buffalo, on 200 - fish, on 500 - the East African crowned crane is represented.
