Republic Sudan Monetary unit is the pound which consists of 100 piastres. In monetary circulation there are coins of denomination of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 piastres.

In 1956 in Sudan coins in nominal value 1, 2, 5 and 10 millimes, 2, 5 and 10 kuruses have been manufactured. All coins a millime have been rapped out from bronze, and a coin kuruses from a Copper-Nickel. Coins 2, 5 and 10 millimes were the gear form. Coins have for the last time manufactured 1 and 2 millimes in 1969. In 1983 brass coins 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 kuruses have been entered, and a coin of 5 millimes have terminated to manufacture.

In 1987 there were new Aluminum-Bronze coins 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 kuruses and 1 pound, coins of 25 kuruses square, and coins of 50 kuruses of the octagonal form. In 1989 began to manufacture coins 25, 50 kuruses and 1 pound from stainless steel. In 1992 as a symbol of an Arabization of the country, replacement of instruments of payment from pound for dinar has been manufactured.

Since July, 1st, 2007, with replacement with national monetary unit revertively from dinar for pound, new coins of denomination in 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 piastres have been manufactured. Coins of 20 and 50 piastres are bimetallic.
