Monetary unit of the Libyan Arabian Jamahiriya is the dinar which consists of 1000 dirhams. In a money turnover there are coins of denomination of 50, 100 dirhams and 1/4 1/2 of dinar.

In 1975 in Libya coins in nominal value 1 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dirhams arms of Federation of the Arabian Republics on which was represented have been manufactured. In 1979 issue of the second series of coins, in the same dignities in which design the horseman with the weapon was used has taken place. Coins of 1/4 and 1/2 of dinar have been manufactured in 2004. Small coins 1, 5, 10 and 20 dirham are used seldom, as exchange unit. Nevertheless, they still save the status as lawful legal tenders.

On obverses of coins of all nominal values the State Emblem of Libya which is looking like a board with a green field is represented, as a charger the Syrian falcon with open wings acts. The reverse of coins of all nominal values contains the digital designation of nominal value seated in a geometrical ornament (two imposed and displaced squares) over the plotting of two ears.
