The Kingdom Belgium is an exhibiting country the European Union . Monetary unit - euro - to equal 100 eurocents.
Till January, 1st, 2002 Belgian francs - to equal 100 centimes were cash token moneys of Belgium. A nominal number of the native currency of Belgium has been presented by notes of denomination of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 10000 francs, legal tender notes to 50 francs.
The Belgian franc is entered into 1830 after branch of Belgium from the Netherlands, its gold content was equal to franc France. Belgium was included into the Latin monetary union, in the country coined golds addressed along with notes.
The Law from October, 26th, 1926 had been entered additional monetary unit - the belga equal to 5 francs which circulation has ceased with the Second World War beginning.
Till March, 30th, 1935 of belga interchanged on gold ingots in weight about 12,5 kg or on a foreign exchange, reversible in gold. With a yield of Belgium from the Gold block (March, 1935) exchange of notes on gold has been terminated.
After clearing of Belgium of fascist occupation in October, 1944 the exchange of notes of former issues on new on a parity 1:1 has been manufactured, and the sums over 2000 francs were blocked.
Since March, 19th, 1973 Belgium participated in system of the narrowed limits of deviations of rates of exchange of member countries of "Common market"; since March, 13th, 1979 has entered into the European currency system.
On face sides of notes of previous euros have been represented: 100 Belgian francs - James Esnor (1860-1949), the Belgian artist; 200 Belgian francs - Adolf Saks (1814-1894), the inventor of musical instruments (saxophone); 500 Belgian francs - Ren Magritte (1898-1967), the Belgian artist-surrealist.
1000 Belgian francs - the sculptor and artist Konstant Permeke (1886-1952); 2000 Belgian francs - Victor Orta (1861-1947), the architect, the modernist style founder; 10000 Belgian francs - the king of Belgium Albert II and the queen of Belgium Paola.
