Monetary unit - a pa'anga ( PT ), or dollar of Tonga=100 senitis.
Monetary unit with the decimal division, equal to an Aussie dollar, - a pa'anga; it is entered on April, 3rd 1967. Before in circulation there was a pound of Tonga which has been equal to the Australian pound.
Currency exchange regulation is carried out by exchequer of Tonga. For all external payments permissions are required. Exportation of the cash native currency is supposed within 250 pa'angas, importation is not limited.
In 1967 on consideration of the government of Tonga notes of denomination 1/2, 1, 2, 5 and 10 pa'anga with the plotting of a portrait of queen Salote Tupou III have been presented. Since 1974 on notes the portrait of king Taufa'ahau Tupou IV is represented. The denomination 1/2 pa'anga was manufactured till 1983, the note 20 pa'anga has occurbed in 1985, 50 pa'anga in 1988. Since July, 30th 2008 the denomination of denomination 100 pa'anga is entered.
On January, 21st, 2009 in Tonga a new series of notes has been entered. In circulation now there are denominations of denomination 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pa'anga.
On face side of a new series of notes, in the center the portrait of king George Tupou V (1948-2012) is presented. On an underside the plotting of animal, historical and cultural monuments of the country is shown.
