Monetary unit of Turkmenistan is the Turkmen manat entered into the cash circulation on November, 1st, 1993. Till this time from the moment of declaration of independence on October, 27th, 1993 as a legal tender in Turkmenia were in use Soviet (the USSR see ) and russian rubles. Introduction of the new native currency was accompanied Exchange of russian rubles for manats, thus 1 manat cost 500 russian rubles. Each Turkmen manat is made by 100 tenges. A nominal number of the native currency of Turkmenistan is presented Notes of denomination of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 manats.

Notes of Turkmenistan were manufactured by three series, first two - with dates of a yield 1993 and 2005, have been issued by portraits of first president Saparmurata Niyazov on face sides and architectural places of interest - on turnaround.
