The lira Turkey is national monetary unit of Turkey. It has been entered into 1861 instead of a piastre. As a result of inflation of the end XX - the beginnings of XXI century the lira Turkey has hardly depreciated. In 2005 after realisation of numerous anti-inflationary measures by Central bank of Turkey the new lira Turkey which is equated to 1 000 000 old has been manufactured. One lira Turkey makes 100 kuruses.
In country monetary circulation there are denominations of denomination of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 liras. On all denominations Kemalja Ataturk's portrait is seated.
From the XX-th century beginning in Turkey 9 series of notes have been manufactured. In the end of the XX-th century, during action of 7 series, the lira Turkey was considered as fluctuating currency, its rate varied almost every day, and nominal values of notes reached 20000000 liras. The government of Turkey began to take measures on a conclusion of a national economy from crisis, and during a transition period from January, 1st, till December, 31st, 2008, "the new lira Turkey" from 8 series of notes has been entered into the circulation. The following, 9 series has been manufactured on January, 1st, 2009 and denominations of 8 series have ceased to be valid after December, 31st, 2009 (though they can be interchanged loosely in Central bank till December, 31st, 2019). Notes of 9 series have inscriptions "lira Turkey" without a word "new", as in 8. Also new notes have the different sizes to avoid fakes. And the basic specificity of this series is that on the back each nominal value the well-known Turkish person, instead of geographical places and architectural features of Turkey, as in the previous series is represented.
Now "lira" for the currency uses the name only Turkey though before Euro lira introduction Italy and Malta used in the name of the currencies.
